KiranpalSingh.com> A Concert for Sant Satbachan Singh Deoora

A musical tribute to Sant Satbachan Singh Ji, (father to Kiranpal Singh), was organized in form a concert (sangeet samelhan), on 13th July 2008 at Namdhari Sikh Sangat Southall. The success of this program has prompted the Deoora family, (Mata Gurcharan Kaur, sons Kanwaljit Singh & Kiranpal Singh and daughters Baljit Kaur & Tajinder Kaur) to make this an annual event. The 3 hour concert composed of various artists, including a santoor solo as homage to Sant Ji by Kiranpal. The evening was a fitting celebration of Sant Ji's life. Meditation, sangeet and kirtan were an essence in his way of life.

After an hour of meditating 'naam', the musical journey began with Ranbir Singh (namdhari). He played Raga Jaitshree on the Taus. Ranbir is one of handful artists who play the taus at this level. His presentation was dynamic and exhibitive. He was accompanied to the tabla by Gurpal Singh. Next was the santoor recital. Kiranpal presented Raga Des. The emotions and feelings for his father was evident in Kiranpal's performance. His tabla accompany was Hiren Chhate, a disciple of Yogesh Samsi. Kiranpal incorporated various raga malas in his presentation.

The evenings vocal presentation was a delight to listen and watch ! The audience was well entertained by a powerful voice and dynamic expressions. Dr Vajay Rajput rendered a khayal in Raga Maru Bihag followed by light compositions in hori kafi.

The final act was by Ustad Harbhajan Singh (accompanied by Ustad Gurdev Singh, Ranbir Singh, Satwinder Singh & Sarabjit Singh and Narinderpal Singh on Tablas). Ustad Ji did two shabads in compositions rarely sang these days.

Speech tributes were paid by Sukhpal Singh Bhatti, Sant H S Randhawa, and UK Namdhari Sangat's president, Sulkhan Singh.
